GPA, CGPA & iCGPA

CUMULATIVE GRADE POINT (GPA), CUMULATIVE GRADE POINT AVERAGE (CGPA) AND  INTEGRATED CUMULATIVE GRADE POINT AVERAGE (iCGPA)
BY MR. MOHD IKHSAN BIN MD RAUS

Camulative Grade Point (GPA) And Camulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)
Calculating grade point average the final examination results and assestments as the end of every semester are assigned a GPA and CGPA which represent student academic achieve. The GPA refers to the calculated average of the letter grades a students earns in each semester following a 0 to 4.0. To past an exam, students have to get 2.00 and above for his CGPA. If  students did not past the CGPA marks or fail for 3 times he will be expel from his university.

Integrated Camulative Grade Point :

iCGPA is an integrated mechanism for assessing and reporting of students’ development and performance as well as learning gains of their ethics,  knowledge and abilities. It is an integrated assessment mechanism that is aimed to assist various stakeholders in making decisions or planning for improvement. The purpose of this mechanism is to drive development and alignment in curriculum design, delivery and assessment at programme level and at course level focussing on student’s learning experience towards development of a holistic and balanced human being.

GPA Calculation Formula :

CGPA Calculation Formula :

Course Status :

  • LU: Pass
  • F1: First time fail
  • F2: Second time fail
  • F3: Third time fail
  • PD: Credit transfer
  • PC: Credit exemption
  • IL: Incomplete
  • UD: Audit
  • XX: Absent from examination with permission
  • YY: Absent from examination without permission
  • ZZ: Is not allowed to sit for the examination

NOTE: The grade for YY and ZZ is 0.00

Incomplete Status (TL) :
  1. A TL status is for the courses such as project exercise or practical training which is not completed within a specific term.
  2. A TL status cannot be more than one consecutive semester. If the student does not complete the assigned exercise or practical training within specific time frame given he or she will be given an F grade or fail.
  3. Any student with a TL status is required to register as a student by paying study fees and registering for the course.

Unsatisfactory Perfomance :

  1. Unsatisfactory performance for the under observation status (P)
  • P1: First Observation - The HPNG obtained is within a range of 1.80 to 2.00
  • P2: Second Observation - The HPNG obtained is less than 2.00 after obtaining a P1 in the last semester
Fail And Termination Status (D) :

GPA Worksheet :

2. Calculate what would have happened if Amelia had earned a B in Chemistry.

4 credit  B 3.00 = 12
Total point earned = 46.68 - 6.68 + 12 = 52
GPA = 52/17 = 3.06

3. What is the difference in GPA ?

3.06 - 2.75 = 0.31

5. What would happen if Amelia had recieved a D in Cell Bio instead of the B+ ?

4 credit  D 1.00 = 4.00
Total point earned = 50.33 - 13.32 + 4.00 = 41.01
GPA = 41.01/18 = 2.28
CGPA = (41.08 + 52)/(17 + 18) = 93.01/35 + 2.66

6. What is the difference in GPA ?

50.33 - 41.01 = 9.32

7. What is the difference in CGPA ?

2.92 - 2.66 = 0.26

8.What does Amelia have to do in oder to achive a GPA of 3.00 in the second semeste if her CGPA falls below 2.50 in the first semester ?
Below 2.50, then I'll make an example of GPA 2.40 for total credit of 18 credit
So, her point earned for that semester would be :

2.40 × 17 = 40.8

(40.8 + ?) ÷ (17 + 18) = 3.00
(40.8 + ?) ÷ (35) = 3.00
40.8 + ? = 3.00 × 35
40.8 + ? = 105
? = 105 - 40.8
? = 64.2

From this calculation, Amelia need to earned 64.2 point for second semester to get at least 3.00
Which she need to get 3.57 pointer for second semester
To get 3.57 pointer, she must not get lower than B+ for all subject and score with high result in 4 credit hour subject.

Thats all I learn for this class. Stay tuned for more update humans!!!
